1M Tickets Sold And All Set For The Future: Wizard Live Takes Stock
Iconic German promoter Wizard Live GmbH looks back on a successful 2024. With over one million visitors in the past twelve months, the Frankfurt-based company was able to double the previous year’s figures. With a diverse portfolio of live acts and innovative formats, Wizard Live cemented its position as one of Germany’s leading concert promoters while simultaneously writing a new, forward-looking chapter to continue its 20-year history.
Wizard Live’s concert year 2023 had already been one for the books, with rock legends like Iron Maiden, Scorpions, and KISS on the road. 2024 continued in similar fashion, with AC/DC, Judas Priest, Toto, and Zucchero attracting hundreds of thousands of fans to sold-out stadiums and arenas across Germany in 2024.
Added to this was a completely sold-out open-air tour by the Böhse Onkelz. One highlight from the box office reports submitted to Pollstar for that tour include two sold out concerts at Berlin’s Waldbühne, Aug. 20-21, moving a total 43,938 tickets at a $4,627,740 gross.
In addition, a total of 150,000 fans attended pop icon Nena’s “We Belong Together Tour”, which concluded its 45 shows in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands and France with a celebrated concert at the Le Trianon Theater in Paris
Pollstar met Wizard founder Ossy Hoppe and managing director Oliver Hoppe in the middle of the aforementioned Onkelz run in September, to talk about the 20th anniversary of their company, which was celebrated with a big party for friends and partners in early October in Frankfurt am Main.
Ossy and Oliver spoke candidly about the company’s past, present, and future, including the realignment it underwent in 2024, repositioning itself with the experience and foresight of two decades – and rebranding from Wizard Promotions to Wizard Live, adding brand consulting, communications and data services, as well as an artist development program to its core business of being a show and touring provider.
The artists Wizard Live mentors now come from a wide range of musical genres. Founded on strong roots as one of Germany’s leading tour organizers in the field of rock and heavy metal, the roster today also includes artists such as neo-classical composer Max Richter, actor and singer Ben Barnes, and jazz-pop ensemble Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, as well as up-and-coming bands from a wide range of musical genres.
The company has also added new formats to its portfolio, such as all-round artist Senna Gammour, and mentalist Dannero’s show.
“Our greatest joy and our greatest successes come from working closely and trustingly with our artists,” commented Oliver Hoppe, “We at Wizard Live see ourselves not only as event organizers, but also as strategic, creative partners who work together with the artists to create unique live performances. Our goal is to make every performance an unforgettable moment – through intensive support, conceptual inspiration and a partnership that goes far beyond classic touring.”
The company also just announced that it strengthened its management team with the appointment of Can Büyükcinar as authorized signatory in addition to head of operations. “A long-standing employee of Wizard Live, he will play an even more active role in shaping the company’s strategic development,” according to a press release.
2025 is looking to be another successful year for Wizard Live, with some 500,000 tickets already sold for upcoming tours of acts such as Iron Maiden, Alison Moyet, Jamie Cullum, Judas Priest, and Saxon.
In addition, major anniversaries are on the horizon: The Scorpions are celebrating their 60th anniversary with a special show in their hometown of Hannover, and Böhse Onkelz are celebrating their 45th anniversary with a sold-out indoor tour.
