Dickey Betts To Be Celebrated in Allman Brothers Band Former Stomping Grounds by Son Duane Betts and Industry Stalwarts
Allman Brothers Band co-founder and Southern rock guitar slayer Dickey Betts will be celebrated in the place where the band broke the rules and musical ground – Macon, Georgia
Betts died on April 18 in Sarasota County Florida, but his son and former torchbearer Duane Betts is hosting a concert in his honor, “In Memory of Dickey Betts,” at the historic Macon City Auditorium on Feb. 28.
Industry elites are joining the celebration including Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Chuck Leavell, Devon Allman and many more with more being added.
The copper domed auditorium has been hosting events since 1925 and was added to the national register of historic places in 1971. The venue has a capacity of 2,700. Tickets go on sale Jan. 13 with a limited number of VIP packages that include an artist meet and greet, commemorative laminate, T-shirt and signed poster. A portion of the proceeds from the concert will benefit music education programs in honor of Betts.
Duane Betts shared the news on Instagram: “This one is for you, Dad. I love you…I miss you…Let’s play all night for the good people in Macon, Georgia.”
