Rachel Platten Announces ‘Set Me Free Tour,’ Performs National Anthem At NFL Wild Card Playoff Game

Multi-Platinum artist and singer/songwriter Rachel Platten fought back tears Monday night as she sang the national anthem at the Los Angeles Rams NFL Wild Card Playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings. The game was relocated from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona due to ongoing fires that are devastating the Los Angeles area. Earlier in the day Platten announced dates for her 2025 North American headline tour “Set Me Free,” kicking off March 16 at Gothic Theatre in Denver.
Many of the players wore their hearts on their sleeves donning LAFD T-shirts in Rams colors during warmups. During the national anthem performance it was clear that members of the Rams on the sidelines were moved by the performance including head coach Sean McVay and players Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford.
Prior to the players taking the field, Platten performed her 2015 hit “Flight Song” set to a montage of footage of first responders battling the deadly fires, which have killed at least 24 people. To date, the song of resilience and empowerment has been streamed more than a billion times.
Platten’s “Set Me Free Tour” is named after the rousing focus track from her recent independent album, I Am Rachel Platten, on her label Violet Records. The 19-date tour includes stops in Toronto and Montreal as well as renowned venues such as the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles (March 25) and the Gramercy Theatre in New York City (April 30). “This will be my first headlining tour in 8 years, and I can’t wait to see all of your faces again,” Platten said in a post on Instagram Jan. 13. “Check out the tour dates on my website, invite all of your friends, and grab your tickets before they’re gone!!”
Ahead of the game, she also spoke about the significance of performing at the NFL game, writing, “I am so proud to be representing my incredible city tonight while honoring the courageous firefighters and first responders who are working tirelessly around the clock to protect us. I will be pouring my heart out through the music for you tonight, and I hope you’re able to tune in.”
Platen is represented by Janet Kim and JT Taylor at UTA. Her manager is Mitchell Solarek and Ben Pogue at Red Light Management.
