In Nashville, it all begins with a song. But songwriters still need to get their compositions heard to make the cut. The pitch process usually happens behind closed doors but The Listening Room Café has taken it center stage.

The Listening Room Café, which has two stages and a cap of 650, recently hosted a Live Song Pitch Round, featuring Sea Gayle Music’s Jordan Fletcher, Barrett Baber, Cam Nemby, Brett Sheroky, Ian Christian and Adam Craig. The second round in a recurring series featured hit songwriters playing their uncut songs to A&R and industry professionals, giving a public audience a behind-the-scenes glimpse at a process central to the Nashville’s songwriting scene.

The Listening Room Café was founded by Chris Blair in 2006 with a simple premise: “There’s nothing like hearing a great song performed live.”  Since then, the venue, which is housed in an historic International Harvester building, has become a staple for the city’s songwriting community with performances on the main stage by Chris Stapleton, Carly Pearce, Lainey Wilson, HARDY and others.

“Kicking off these Live Song Pitch Shows has been a lot of fun,” shared Blair. “Most people don’t realize what goes on behind the scenes before a song makes it to a major artist, but it starts in a writer’s room and goes through A&R before getting pitched. We’re bringing that process to our stage at Listening Room, giving you a real look at how it all happens. With two shows down, we’re excited to team up with more publishers in town to keep it going.”

The next Live Song Pitch Round will be held on Feb. 6 with songwriters from Liz Rose Music and Smack.
