When a performer earns a nomination for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards, it is an indication that their career has gone through an unprecedented level of growth and success. Attention from The Recording Academy is a catalyst for next-level results in all their creative pursuits, and that includes their experience as a concert performer.
All eight nominated artists have a box office history at Pollstar, but their presence on the charts in 2024 does vary considerably. For example, rapper Doechii only had two dates reported from her run of nine U.S. shows last October and November, but both were sellouts. She played The Independent in San Francisco with 550 in the house, and Union Stage in Washington, D.C., attended by 500 fans.
Country artist Shaboozey also had ticket sales reported from only two concerts, both sellouts at Washington, D.C.’s 9:30 Club with 1,200 in attendance, but his schedule in 2024 also included an opening slot on Jelly Roll’s “Beautifully Broken Tour” in October and November.
Sabrina Carpenter’s presence on the charts in 2024 was based on the success of her “Short n’ Sweet Tour” which launched in September with 33 arena concerts booked in U.S. and Canadian arenas through the fall. Ticket sales reported from 11 of them reflect a per-show average of 13,789 tickets and a gross of $1.6 million.
Three of the arenas on her tour recorded grosses higher than $1.9 million with Madison Square Garden reporting the largest total. The Sep. 29 New York concert earned $1.94 million, but she also surpassed $1.9 million at TD Garden in Boston, Oct. 3, and Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Sept. 30.
Carpenter will resume the tour in March, beginning with two shows at 3Arena in Dublin and wrapping in Stockholm on April 4. The final engagement will also be a two-nighter with concerts at Avicii Arena.
Chappell Roan, like Carpenter, is a six-time nominee this year and vying for the same six Grammy awards, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Record of the Year in addition to Best New Artist. They are also up for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance.
Roan’s breakout year began with small headlining shows but also included a stretch of dates as an opening act on Olivia Rodrigo’s “Guts World Tour.” The visibility from that arena trek, along with the success of her chart-topping debut album helped propel her to widespread popularity on festival stages in North America, including Lollapalooza in Chicago where festival organizers stated that her appearance drew the largest crowd ever for a daytime set.
With 33 headlining dates reported in 2024, she averaged 3,424 tickets per concert with a gross average of $131,970. Looking ahead, headlining sets at festivals have been announced for 2025, beginning with “Primavera Sound” in Barcelona in June. She currently has eight European festivals booked this summer.
Benson Boone also has international festival appearances booked in 2025, beginning in South America in March, but North American events are also on the books from April through June, along with two European festivals in July.
He also played a string of European shows last November during his “Fireworks & Rollerblades Tour,” preceded by North American shows during much of the year. His tour began in April with shows set primarily in clubs and theaters, but amphitheaters and other larger venues followed. With 45 shows reported during the year, Boone averaged 4,150 sold seats and a $226,278 gross per show.
Nominee Teddy Swims has a jam-packed touring itinerary with headline dates set for 2025. His first trek in February and March will be through European cities with arena shows planned. Then, through mid-September, he will perform mainly at amphitheaters in North America.
With only a handful of the 2024 dates on his “I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy Tour” reported last year, he averaged 2,744 tickets and $201,061 in grosses per performance in North America. At his European shows, his averages totaled 2,361 in tickets with grosses at $84,091, while his Australia and New Zealand trek saw an average of 5,383 tickets and $372,010 in grosses.
Khruangbin toured throughout North America in 2024 in support of A La Sala, the group’s fourth studio album released in April, followed by a series of European and other international dates in the second half of the year. With 59 shows reported worldwide, the trio averaged 4,410 tickets and a gross of $295,447 per show in 2024.
The tour’s top gross was $2.02 million from three shows at UC Berkeley’s Greek Theatre in California, while the 25,516 ticket count there was also the highest of the year. One other three-show engagement was reported, a June event at The Salt Shed in Chicago that welcomed 15,822 fans.
Finally, British singer Raye performed at festivals around the globe last year, largely in Europe and Australia, but she also played headlining dates, including six that were reported. Her box office history shows an average of 1,651 sold tickets and a gross of $65,634 per concert in 2024.
