‘Faster Speeds, Reliable Connectivity’: 5G Network Launches At Wembley Stadium London

UK mobile provider and Wembley Stadium sponsor EE is launching 5G connectivity at the iconic building tonight, Feb. 26.

The International Live Music Conference ILMC has kicked off in London, England. In his opening remarks on the morning of Feb. 26, the UK’s minister for the creative industries, arts and tourism, Chris Bryant, talked about the cultural and economic importance of the live business. One improvement he’d like to see implemented at large scale events going forward was better connectivity on site, so fans would be able to get in touch with friends and loved ones post show, in case they lost each other in the heat of the moment.

Bryant will be pleased to hear that Wembley Stadium announced that it’s just become “the UK’s first sports venue to have a cutting-edge, new mobile network – 5G standalone (SA) – a bespoke and permanent upgrade to deliver faster mobile internet speeds and reliable connectivity.”

When some 90,000 England fans descend upon the world-famous stadium tonight, Feb. 26, for the England Women’s UEFA Nations League match against Spain, they’ll be able to communicate with friends inside and outside of the stadium “easier than ever before, whether they’re stuck in a queue at the bar or sharing game highlights on social media,” according to the press release.

The technology will also be used to support Wembley Stadium’s wider event operations, including retail point-of-sale, and television broadcasting, as well as future fan experiences.

UK mobile network EE has been a sponsor of Wembley Stadium since 2014. The contract was recently renewed to run until 2028. EE launched its 5G standalone network in September 2024.

Fans visiting the London stadium throughout 2025, when Oasis or Blackpink are set to take the stage, and the FA and Carabao Cup matches return to Wembley, will benefit from what the building operators described as “more reliable mobile internet, faster loading speeds, and improved video calls.”

“The Lionesses have made history with their ground-breaking performances on the pitch, and now we’ve made history off it with the launch of the first 5G standalone network at Wembley Stadium,” said Marc Allera, CEO at EE.

“Whether it’s the Emirates FA Cup Final or one of the hotly anticipated gigs this summer, our cutting-edge mobile connectivity will ensure fans can capture, share and experience history in new ways under the iconic Wembley arch in 2025,” he added.
