Entertainment industry veteran Brian Wagner will take the helm of the International Entertainment Buyers Association as its executive director March 1, replacing Pam Matthews who retired after 12 years leading the Nashville-based bookers trade group.

Wagner has nearly 30 years of experience working in the entertainment industry with roles in artist management, concert promotion, and as a booking agent. He was the founder of Flashpoint Entertainment which launched Nashville venues The Mercy Lounge, Cannery Ballroom and BB King’s Blues Club. In 2006, he moved to the venerable Ryman Auditorium to lead its marketing efforts, but that role eventually expanded, as he curated the well-regarded annual Bluegrass Series and “Sam’s Place — Music for the Spirit” series. During his tenure at the legendary venue, the Ryman earned IEBA Theater of the Year in 2009, six straight Pollstar Theater of the Year awards, three Academy of Country Music Venue of the Year trophies and was CMA SRO Venue of the Year three straight times.

In 2015, Wagner was named Assistant Commissioner of Marketing for the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development where, among other projects, he developed “The Soundtrack of America. Made In Tennessee.” campaign which earned advertising industry accolades including Cannes Lions, Clios and Effies.

“I am honored to join IEBA and excited about the opportunities,” Wagner said in a statement. “IEBA has a long-standing reputation for excellence. Stepping into this role following Pam is no small task — her leadership has left an enduring legacy. I look forward to working with the Board, our membership, and our partners.”

His predecessor Matthews lauded Wagner’s appointment.

“IEBA is deeply committed to its membership and to the music community at large. Brian understands this, and that makes him the perfect person to lead this organization. It is with every confidence that I pass the torch to Brian.”

IEBA’s 55th annual conference is slated for Oct. 5-7 at Grand Hyatt Nashville with agency parties slated for The Pinnacle, the new venue at the Nashville Yards development.
