As director of entertainment booking for Detroit-based 313 Presents, Cara Saam has a first-hand look — and influence — at talent at multiple levels of touring, with 313 handling operating and/or booking six venues ranging from theater up to the stadium level. Therefore, she has a great perspective on the overall touring landscape.

“2024 was definitely the year for women in music. We had so many huge tours, between Olivia Rodrigo, Missy Elliott, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli xcx and more,” said Saam. “I think that women pushing forward and making sure that their voices are heard had a lot to do with so many breakouts over the past year. Having women in positions at every level of the industry and being able to take control of their line of work is extremely important and, frankly, long overdue. These women have ideas about how they want things done and execute their ideas into action and I am here for it!”

Little Caesars Arena continues its status as an anchor venue in the region for concert tours, ranking No. 24 on Pollstar’s 2024 year-end arenas chart with 780,000 tickets reported sold. Upcoming shows include Katy Perry; Tyler, the Creator; Linkin Park; Tate McRae and many others.

Also on the venue side, Saam notes a major renovation at the Fox Theatre, which included new seats, and capability to offer different GA configurations for tours.

“We’re incredibly excited to get our first GA show off the ground this upcoming spring,” she said.

Saam says that success in the live entertainment industry requires communication and remembering that everyone has the same goal of successful events.

“Don’t ever stop asking questions,” she said. “If you’re not sure about something, please ask the question. I frequently get paired up with new hires and interns at our company to sit down and explain what my role and the role of our department is and always mention this to them. We all have the common interest to make our shows succeed and we all learn and communicate differently. So if you don’t understand, please just ask the question to clarify.”
