As part of the committee of insiders who sets the lineup for the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival for Goldenvoice, AEG Presents’ California venue and festival operator extraordinaire, Jennifer Yacoubian is in the sanctum sanctorum of what drives so much of the broader festival business.

No other festival’s lineup is as highly anticipated — and scrutinized — as the two April weekends at the Empire Polo Club and Goldenvoice has a heavy and enviable remit: preserve what keeps the crowds coming back to Coachella every year but freshen it up to keep it exciting enough to justify the price and the trip to the desert.

This year, Coachella — headlined by Lady Gaga, Green Day and Post Malone — will debut the Quasar stage, which will feature DJs playing three-hour sets. Several artists are announced for the lineup, including Diplo back-to-back Mau P, Honey Dijon b2b Green Velvet, Jamie xx b2b Floating Points b2b Daphni, and Eric Prydz b2b Anyma. The stage also features solo sets from Michel Bibi and a DJ set by Rüfüs Du Sol.

In a video announcing the stage, Yocoubian said, “We’re super excited to introduce Quasar to Coachella. It’s going to be a stage where we can book talent on it in a way that we haven’t felt like we’ve been able to in the past. We’re looking at it as a traditional kind of DJ stage.”

In addition to Coachella, Yacoubian — a four-time nominee for Pollstar’s Talent Buyer of the Year award (including a nod at this year’s upcoming Pollstar Awards) — books many of Goldenvoice’s well-regarded genre-specific mini-fests, including Cruel World, the goth and post-punky event at Brookside at the Rose Bowl that frequently comes up as an annual favorite among industry insiders. This year’s lineup is topped by New Order and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds with support from the legendary Go-Go’s, Devo, Garbage, Madness and more.

And if all that festival goodness wasn’t enough, Yacoubian is the primary talent buyer for the iconic Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and Splash House in Palm Springs.
