Though the live industry is an extremely fast-paced business, Jenny Reid is a firm believer that slow and steady wins the race.

“It is necessary to slow down in our particular area (ticketing) as it can be very tedious,” says Outback Presents VP of ticketing, who was promoted to the role in December of 2023.

“My team and I are looking at numbers and dots on a map day-in and day-out. It’s important to be accurate, so I regularly remind everyone to slow down, take a breath, and double check.”

Another thing that’s stuck with Reid is the value of being scrappy. When starting in this business, Reid notes she didn’t have a clue about the ins and outs of online ticketing software and putting a show on sale and, in her first role with a different promoter, was mostly left to figure it out herself.

“I got scrappy,” she said. “I clicked around everywhere I could in any ticketing software I could get my hands on, talked to everyone I met who knew anything about it and learned it all by jumping in head first. It was wild, but here I am almost 12 years later, running a full department that I built for one of the largest independent promoters in the country.”

As an independent promoter, what drives Outback Presents’ team is an entrepreneurial mindset.

As Outback doesn’t own venues or properties, Reid says it’s imperative to find opportunities for underserved artists or markets – which is mutually beneficial for Outback, their artists and teams, venue partners and the markets they’re serving.

Outback’s strength in comedy touring demonstrates that the prevalence of female talent is not limited to music.

“What we are witnessing is the result of years of hard work from the likes of incredibly powerful female comedians; Nikki Glaser, Taylor Tomlinson, Leanne Morgan, Fortune Feimster, Heather McMahan, Kathleen Madigan, Wanda Sykes, Whitney Cummings, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Tiffany Haddish, and so many others,” she says.

“They are the ultimate role models for the next generation.”
