2025 Women Of Live: Laura Segura
Laura Segura
Executive Director | MusiCares
FAV SHOW OF 2024 | Dead & Co. at the Sphere. “It redefined for me what’s possible
in live entertainment.”

Laura Segura is Executive Director of MusiCares, the industry safety net for critical health and welfare services founded by The Recording Academy in 1989.
Support offered by the organization includes financial aid for medical expenses, rent and other emergencies, mental health and addiction recovery resources and health services including free clinics and preventative care.
Responding during a crisis is central to the mission and was clear this year in the aftermath of devastating wildfires in Los Angeles.
“MusiCares is deeply engaged in disaster relief, in addition to our ongoing annual initiatives,” said Segura. “In the first months of 2025 alone, we served 3,000 clients and their families and distributed $6 million in emergency aid in response to the Los Angeles-area fires alone.”
Millions more had already been distributed in the aftermath of the deadly 2024 hurricane season. Segura has said that taking a stand as an organization to help the community through disasters has raised awareness about who MusiCares is and what MusiCares is capable of in the industry.
Inclusivity and equity are the foundation of organization and the people they serve.
“And we remain deeply committed to those values today,” she said. “Leadership in government has shifted many times over MusiCares’ nearly 40-year history, but our mission has never wavered. We serve the entire music community – regardless of profession, cultural or geographic background, genre, race, religion, gender, age or any other factor. We care for all the humans behind the music because music gives so much to the world.”
The mission applies to women in the industry who continue to make their voices heard.
“Women have always been doing incredible things in music,” said Segura. “Any perception of 2024 as a ‘breakout year’ is the result of institutional investment shining a spotlight on the hard work and talent that has always been there. I encourage women to continue being their best selves and for companies to keep celebrating the talent and dedication of all genders who contribute to this industry.”
