Neil Young Cancels Ukraine Gig

Citing safety concerns, Neil Young canceled a free concert planned for wartorn Ukraine.

The show was announced earlier this month in conjunction with his European summer tour with Chrome Hearts. No date or location had been disclosed.

“We had a good venue, close to a shelter, but the changing situation on the ground was too much,” Young wrote on his website. “I could not in good conscience take my crew and instruments into that area. My apologies to all. Ukraine is a great country with a good leader. SLAVA UKRAINI.”

It would have marked Young’s first performance in the country, which he’s outspokenly supported since it was unilaterally invaded by Russia in February 2022.

The European leg of the “Love Earth” tour begins June 18 in Rättvik, Sweden, and includes stops across the continent, plus a headlining spot at Glastonbury. The North American leg begins Aug. 8 and concludes in Los Angeles Sept. 15.
