After First Inspection Delay, Brooklyn Mirage Cancels Debut Weekend

After canceling the first show of its summer season yesterday (May 1), the Brooklyn Mirage has canceled all shows through its scheduled opening weekend, the venue announced on social media. Dates by Sara Landry (May 1 and May 2), City Fox (May 3) and Black Coffee (May 4) are affected. The Brooklyn Mirage is owned by New York City-based promotion company Avant Gardner.
“We know this is disappointing news,” the statement read. “While we are working 24/7 on the solution, we want to first and foremost send a sincere apology to the fans, artists, crew members, and hundreds of employees who will bring Mirage to life each night. Their livelihoods and passion are at the heart of everything we do, and we are doing everything in our power to get back on track – safely and in full compliance – as soon as possible.”

Ticket holders for Friday, Saturday and Sunday will receive a full refund. Ticket holders for Thursday’s show already received refunds.
According to the New York City Department of Buildings, three permits for the new structure are still on hold. Pollstar reached out to the city for comment.
“We are actively collaborating with a wide range of city officials to meet all requirements, and we look forward to opening as soon as possible,” the venue continued in its statement.
A City Hall spokesperson told the Brooklyn Paper the city “cannot endanger New Yorkers by allowing them to enter a venue without a permit.”
“Our administration has been in ongoing communication with the owners of the Brooklyn Mirage to ensure their site meets the necessary structural and safety codes,” the spokesperson told the site. “Unfortunately, the venue does not currently meet the standards required for either a permanent or temporary structure.”
Avant Gardner, the promotion company that owns Brooklyn Mirage (an outdoor venue with a 6,250-cap in the larger Avant Gardner complex, which contains the Great Hall [3,000-cap] and Kings Hall [220-cap]) unveiled its new renovation plans in March.
Next weekend sees Loud Luxury (May 9) and two sets scheduled by Cloonee (a day party from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a night party from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.) on May 10. Austin Millz was scheduled to perform at Great Hall on May 3, and took to social media to share that the venue has moved to Brooklyn Steel.
“As you all know, there have been some complications around the venue for Saturday, but thanks to their staff & my team, we’ve managed to move the show to Brooklyn Steel just 6 minutes away,” Millz shared on his Instagram. “All previously purchased tix will be valid at the new venue!”
Following the cancellation of her show on May 1, Sara Landry performed a first-come, first-served show at nearby Knockdown Center. She took to Instagram to request that fans leave space for those who flew in from out of town. On May 2, ticket holders to her May 1 show will receive tickets to see her perform at the Brooklyn Storehouse from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
UPDATE 7:36 PM ET: Sara Landry announced she will perform two shows at the nearby Knockdown Center for ticket holders for tonight’s show at the Brooklyn Mirage. The first show will take place tonight (May 2) from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., and the second will be tomorrow (May 3) from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. She is performing two dates in order to accommodate all ticket holders, splitting the capacity as Knockdown Center’s indoor venue holds 3,200 guests, compared to Brooklyn Mirage’s 5,000-cap. Landry requested that her fans save tickets for tonight’s show for those who traveled out of town, promising that tomorrow’s show can accommodate local New Yorkers.
