Billy Joel broke the news today that he is being forced to cancel all scheduled concerts because of a recent diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH). The announcement notes that the brain disorder, in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain, has been “exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance.” The affected tour dates included performances with Stevie Nicks, Sting and Rod Stewart.

Joel is undergoing physical therapy and has been advised by his doctor to refrain from performing during this recovery period. The announcement on Joel’s website goes on to say that the iconic singer is “thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health. He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take the stage.”

Joel’s next scheduled show was a July 5 concert with Rod Stewart at Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium, followed by a July 18 gig with Stewart at New York’s Yankees Stadium. The canceled shows also included Stevie Nicks co-headline dates at Rutherford, New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium; Santa Clara, California’s Levi’s Stadium, New Orleans Superdome and Detroit’s Ford Field. Joel had two concerts booked with Sting in Queens, New York (Aug. 21) and Washington, D.C. (Sept. 5), along with three shows scheduled in 2026 that had already been postponed from April and May 2025.

Refunds for the canceled shows will be automatically processed back to the original payment used for the purchase.

In a statement Joel said, “I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.”

Joel ranked No. 36 on Pollstar‘s 2024 Top Touring Artists Worldwide chart with an average gross of $5,368,370 and an average of 25,966 tickets sold per show. His agent is Independent Artist Group’s Dennis Arfa.
