One day before he was scheduled to perform in front of 50,000 fans at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Mexican singer Julión Álvarez was forced to postpone his sold-out May 24th concert after being informed that his visa to work in the U.S. had been “canceled,” the artist announced on social media Friday.

The regional Mexican star issued a statement along with his management team at Copar Music and promoter Cárdenas Marketing Network confirming that the concert was postponed “due to unforeseen circumstances” and that Álvarez was barred from entering the U.S.

“With nearly 50,000 tickets sold, this sold-out show promised to be an unforgettable night for his fans,” the joint statement read. “Both CMN and Compar Music, together with Julión’s team, are actively working to reschedule the presentation as soon as possible.”

The regional Mexican star took to Instagram and posted a video message explaining the situation, but didn’t go into detail as to why his work visa was revoked. The video included footage of the AT&T with floor seats and a large stage in place, as well as engineers working on the sound.

“Unfortunately, we have to inform you all that the event as scheduled will not take place due to the cancellation of our work visas, [news] that we received today— the morning of May 23, 2025—formally, and we do not have the possibility of entering the United States to fulfill our commitment to all of you,” Álvarez said in a video to his fans. “It is a situation that is out of our hands. This is the information I have that I can share with all of you.”

He went on to add that while the promoters look for a new date, those who purchased tickets can either hold on to them or ask for a refund within the next few days.

The concert in Arlington was supposed to be his fourth show in the States this year. Álvarez made a triumphant return to the U.S. in April with three sold-out shows at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, his first concerts in the country since 2017. The three-night stand grossed $30,000,891 off 132,095 tickets sold, according to Pollstar Boxoffice, and it’s safe to assume the Mexican singer would have had similar success at AT&T Stadium with at least an $8 million haul.

Álvarez’s situation comes amid a tense political climate for undocumented and documented immigrants, as well as international artists planning to tour in the U.S. Live entertainment professionals have expressed concerns to Pollstar about ICE deportation raids happening around the country, and the government has reportedly been looking into Mexican artists who sing about narco culture. Michelada Fest in Chicago was canceled earlier this month because of “the uncertainty surrounding artist visas and the rapidly changing political climate.”

Álvarez is a prominent figure in the música Mexicana movement with nearly 17 million monthly listeners on Spotify. He had not been able to perform on American soil because the U.S. government alleged the artist was linked to a drug trafficking organization, but that allegation was dropped in 2022, and soon after, he was allowed to put his songs on music streaming platforms. Before setting new records at SoFi Stadium, the Mexican star’s last U.S. concert was at Oracle Arena (now called Oakland Arena) in Northern California on April 29, 2017. The show grossed $739,504 off 6,962 tickets sold, according to Pollstar Boxoffice.
