Shakira, Jason Aldean Fenway Park Concerts Canceled Due To ‘Unforeseen Circumstances’

Hours before Shakira was to take the stage in Boston to perform in front of a sold-out crowd, Fenway Park and Live Nation announced that her show was abruptly canceled due to “unforeseen circumstances.” The concert scheduled for the following night at the Major League Baseball ballpark featuring Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn was also canceled.
Fenway Park’s live events social media page posted a brief statement on its social media page a few hours before opening the gates for fans, saying, “Refunds will be available at your point of purchase. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
Live Nation later provided additional information about why the shows were canceled.
“During a routine pre-show check, structural elements were identified as not being up to standard, so the shows were canceled,” Live Nation said in a statement provided to Pollstar. “All team members are safe.”
Shakira, who has featured guests on select nights throughout her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour,” previously announced that two artists would join her in Boston. Wycleaf Jean, who is featured on her smash hit “Hips Don’t Lie,” and will.i.am, who worked with the Colombian megastar on “Girl Like Me,” were slated to perform alongside her.
The Latin star’s tour is her most ambitious effort on the road with state-of-the-art production, which can be a massive undertaking for any venue. Shakira has already encountered production hiccups during her tour, having postponed shows in Medellín, Colombia, and Santiago, Chile, because of safety concerns.
“Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour” has averaged $5.48 million per show so far, including a $13,798,380 haul across two nights at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, May 15-16. Shakira, who is booked by WME and managed by Nadine Eliya, has grossed $136.88 million off 25 shows, according to Pollstar Boxoffice reports.
