Shakira Tour Suffers Another Setback, Cancels D.C. Show After Nixing Boston Concert

After having to cancel her show in Boston, Colombian megastar Shakira had to nix another sold-out concert scheduled for May 31 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
The Major League Baseball stadium released a statement a day before the show, saying that the event was canceled because the artist’s “full tour production cannot be transported to Washington, D.C. in time for her scheduled performance” after the “complications with the previous show in Boston.”
Refunds were issued to fans who purchased tickets via Ticketmaster and Nationals.com, and those who bought theirs via a third-party seller were directed to contact their point of purchase directly.
“Despite every effort to make it happen, it is not possible to move forward as planned,” the venue wrote.
The original post from Nationals Park also included a message from Shakira.
“Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am sad and heartbroken that I will not be able to be in Washington, D.C. with you tomorrow. I hope that I can come back to D.C., as soon as I am able. Meanwhile, please know that I am eternally thankful for your unconditional support,” the statement read.
The concert was supposed to kick off World Pride 2025 in the nation’s capital, a massive celebration of the LGBTQ+ community that draws millions of people to D.C.
Shakira also released her own statement via Instagram, lamenting yet another cancellation as a result of production issues.
“Nothing more painful for an artist than having to cancel two sold-out stadium shows like Boston and DC for reasons beyond one’s control,” she wrote. “Thank you for being there in the good times and the not so good. We’ve cruised together through every bump in the road, and you always take me to the other side.”
The Latin singer canceled her sold-out concert at Boston’s Fenway Park hours before it was set to begin because “structural elements were identified as not being up to standard,” according to promoter Live Nation, which had to cancel a Jason Aldean concert scheduled for the following night.
It’s another setback for the star’s ambitious “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour.” Shakira previously encountered production hiccups in Medellín, Colombia, and Santiago, Chile, because of safety concerns, but those shows were postponed.
She is scheduled to perform tonight at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Shakira posted a video on Instagram Sunday evening showing she arrived in the city, assuring fans that her show will go on in the Big Peach.
“Hello, Atlanta! I’m here. Can’t wait to see you tomorrow,” she said.
“Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour” has averaged $5.48 million per show so far, including a $13,798,380 haul across two nights at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, May 15-16. Shakira, who is booked by WME and managed by Nadine Eliya, has grossed $136.88 million off 25 shows, according to Pollstar Boxoffice reports.
