A late-night curfew in the downtown area implemented by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has forced businesses to cancel events, including shows at Walt Disney Concert Hall and Peacock Theater.

Bass issued a curfew June 10 covering one square mile of downtown L.A. after the mostly peaceful protests against recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, raids turned violent, with some businesses looted and damaged since the demonstrations began on June 6.

People who don’t live in the area to are not allowed to be out between 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The move has made the downtown area a ghost town, affecting local restaurants, movie theaters and music venues.

Walt Disney Concert Hall told Pollstar that it had to cancel the final show of its Seoul Festival, which began on June 3, on Tuesday night, due to the curfew. It was also the last L.A. Philharmonic-presented show at the venue for the 2024-25 season and won’t return to the Hall until the end of September.

The Fly High Fest featuring Latin artists like Chino Pacos and Los Caimanes De Sinaloa, which was scheduled for June 13 at Peacock Theater, was also canceled.

British house DJ Cloonee postponed this weekend’s two-day event at City Market in Los Angeles. He posted a statement standing in solidarity with the protestors.

“For the past four years now I have called this city my home,” wrote Cloonee, whose shows were rescheduled for July 11-12. “Like the city, my fans are diverse and it breaks my heart to see what the Latino community is going through right now.”

He went on to say that the “responsible” thing to do was to postpone the event because “now is not the time for celebrating.”

“I see you, I hear you and I simply will not throw a party whilst the Latino people who have supported me in this city are hurting so deeply,” Cloonee added.

Grand Performances, which puts on free summer concerts at California Plaza in downtown L.A., announced that its June 14 show featuring rock band Ozomatli has been postponed.

“Grand Performances continues to believe in unity and healing through music and giving our artists a platform to express themselves freely… all things that are desperately needed right now as we look to care for our communities and throughout our beloved Los Angeles,” the Grand Performances team wrote in a statement.

The Bellwether, one of L.A.’s newest music venues, was also affected despite being just outside of the curfew zone. Miyavi Ishihara’s performance tonight has been pushed back to Feb. 20, 2026.

Tune-Yards, however, still performed at The Bellwether on June 11 despite the curfew nearby and dedicated the show to the protestors as well as music icons Sly Stone and Brian Wilson.

“The show is on,” Merrill Garbus told her Instagram followers in a video the day of Tune-Yards’ concert. “It feels really important to play music, and we are outside of the curfew area of [downtown L.A.]. So I am encouraging you to do what is safe, but I want you to know we’re here, and I’m going to play music tonight for the people being detained a few blocks away. I’m going to play music for us … to calm our nervous systems down, to remember our voices to be strong.”

The Alamo Drafthouse and Regal at L.A. Live movie theaters had to close early the past two days, and the Mark Taper Forum canceled Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s performance of “Hamlet.” Some venues have advised ticketholders to follow social media pages or contact them directly to verify postponed shows and cancellations.

There have been various protests throughout L.A. County over the past seven days, and the Trump Administration responded to them by deploying the National Guard and Marines despite pleas from Gov. Gavin Newsom and Bass to rescind the order and not escalate the situation.

It is unknown how long the curfew imposed by the City of Los Angeles in the downtown area will last, but each day could cost theaters dozens of thousands of dollars.
