Tech companies are just as bullish as artists, promoters, agents and venues on live entertainment, and one of the major ones investing in the various ventures that intersect with live music is Amazon.
Kirdis Postelle, global head of content at Amazon Music, has helped the streaming giant build a dedicated audience that craves live entertainment through various projects, whether it be streaming major festivals like Stagecoach, Outside Lands and Vive Latino or the FireAid benefit concert or Amazon’s City Sessions, which features artists playing intimate one-off concerts and interviews.
However, the most ambitious effort for Postelle and her team has been Amazon Music Live, a concert series broadcast after the NFL’s Thursday Night Football that closed out its third season last November with Snoop Dogg. The series features a variety of stars from all genres like Ed Sheeran, Peso Pluma, Halsey, Jelly Roll, Latto and Lil Durk performing in front of a live audience while connecting with sports and music fans watching Prime Video and Twitch.
“The series occupies a special place at the intersection of sports and culture, and we knew going into our third season that we had an opportunity to go bigger and be more ambitious with the series,” Postelle says. “We also elevated the in-person experience for the crowd attending these performances, creating a truly immersive concert that put fans at the center of music and sports.”
The third season of AML broke viewership records for the streamer multiple times, Postelle says, and she promises even bigger projects for the fans tuned into Amazon Music’s content in 2025 and beyond.
“Already this year, we’ve collaborated closely with our colleagues at Prime Video to curate a brand-new, Amazon Music original theme for NASCAR on Prime Video from Eric Church and John Fogerty,” she says. “Amazon Music Live after Thursday Night Football remains one of our highest profile moments, and I’m excited to see how the series evolves this year.”
