Lee Anderson recently wrapped up his first year as president at Wasserman Music, and the agency has had some pretty big wins. Kevin Shivers, James Rubin and Cristina Baxter were brought in as music agents in January, the company won Agency of the Year for the second year running at this year’s Pollstar Awards, and Anderson’s clients continue to dominate in the dance music space.

“I’ve long admired Kevin, James and Cristina, as both professionals and people,” Anderson said in a statement after the three joined the agency from WME. “It’s gratifying to now refer to some of our toughest competition as our newest teammates and partners.”

Longtime client Skrillex headlined the Ultra Music Festival mainstage for the first time in a decade in March and also performed a five-hour set at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in May.

Zedd returned to Los Angeles with his Zedd in the Park festival, and clients ISOxo and Knock2 headlined Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego for their homecoming show, selling out with 30,000 tickets and announcing they’ll return in December for the first edition of their Niteharts festival.

And, after Yousuke Yukimatsu captured the dance world’s attention with his Boiler Room set in Tokyo, Anderson signed the Japanese DJ and will be bringing him to the U.S. for the first time this fall with shows in New York City and at Portola music festival.

Anderson notes the importance of one-off events that truly capture the zeitgeist and make fans feel they had to be there.

Skrillex often performs in this manner, with the artist also surprising fans at Under the K Bridge on May 18 by going back-to-back with Four Tet.

“You’re not rolling out 42-date tours the way we did 10-15 years ago,” Anderson said as part of the Pollstar Live! Panel discussion “Power Players: Are We In A Market Correction?”

“You’re really eventizing things. You’re leaning in and going bigger, with fewer markets to make them a one-off thing.”
