Shakira Postpones SoFi Stadium Concert

Shakira’s much-anticipated return to Southern California has been pushed back several weeks. The Colombian superstar was originally scheduled to perform at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood this Friday, but the venue’s event calendar now has the show happening on Aug. 4.
There has been no official statement from Shakira, promoter Live Nation or the venue, but someone close to the situation told Pollstar the reports online speculating that it has something to do with recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids and protests are false. Live Nation has not responded to Pollstar’s request for comment.
It’s yet another bump on the road for Shakira’s “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour.” The challenging, massive production has experienced troubles in South America and the U.S. She had to abruptly cancel a concert at Boston’s Fenway Park on May 29 hours before the show because structural elements weren’t up to standard, Live Nation said at the time.
Two days later, her show at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., was canceled because the production could not be transported after the complications of the nixed Fenway Park show.
Most recently, the Latin megastar postponed her June 13 show at the Alamodome in San Antonio, again due to a structural problem with a truss. The artist released a statement blaming “a third party who locally provides the infrastructure to support the stage and the ceiling from which my production hangs.”
Shakira added that she was working with a new group of engineers to resolve the problem, and the company then promised her that the structure was reinforced and guaranteed that the production was safe going forward. The artist went on to perform two sold-out shows at Houston’s Toyota Center on June 15 and 16.
Despite the various snags, Shakira’s tour has been a massive success, soaring to No. 2 on Pollstar’s Midyear Top 100 Worldwide Touring Artists chart with an astronomical gross of $115,550,442 off 20 shows.
Shakira is booked by WME and managed by Nadine Eliya, CEO of Versatile Creative. Eliya was featured on the cover of this month’s Pollstar’s midyear issue.
