Ben Folds Releases ‘Ben Folds Live with the National Symphony Orchestra,’ Tour Dates Booked Through December

Ben Folds marked Independence Day by releasing a new album, Ben Folds Live with the National Symphony Orchestra, which was recorded at the sold-out Concert Hall of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 25-26, 2024. The power pop singer/songwriter has a run of tour dates booked through the end of 2025 that will see him continue partnering with some of the country’s leading orchestras.

The album was recorded months before Folds resigned his position as the first ever Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) following President Trump’s decision to take control of the Kennedy Center and name himself chairman. 

An announcement from Folds’ PR team describes the new LP as “part protest, part celebration,” adding that it “lands with the clarity of a final bow before the curtain drops. Except it’s not the end – it’s a rally cry.” 

The track listing includes classic hits and new music from Folds. The National Symphony Orchestra was conducted by Principal Pops Conductor of the NSO Steven Reineke and the album features a choir that includes Doug Peck, Nicholas Kassoy and Marc Silvey, along with special guests Regina Spektor and Tall Heights.

“This album suddenly now feels much bigger,” Ben Folds told Kyle Meredith, nationally syndicated radio host at WFPK FM, Louisville. “I knew we were making something special with the NSO. I didn’t know it’d be a time capsule of the last moment before it all got torn down.”

Folds added, “I still believe there’s more good than not. But you must work for it. You have to say something. Especially now.”

Folds’ tour dates are booked by Wasserman Music’s Jonathan Levine, Seth Malasky and Noah Plotnicki. Highlights from Folds’ recent reports submitted to Pollstar Boxoffice include two shows with the Omaha Symphony Orchestra at Peter Kiewit Concert Hall in Omaha, Nebraska, May 9-10, that sold a total of 3,410 tickets and grossed $205,670.
