Kesha Plays Dallas After Being Forced To Postpone Tuesday’s Show Because Of Lightning Storm

After Kesha was forced to postpone Tuesday’s show in Dallas because of a lightning storm she promised to stay “here in your beautiful city and come back here tomorrow … Get home safe, let’s party tomorrow.” The pop star kept her word and took the stage at the Dos Equis Pavilion last night, though fans once again had to take shelter and the Scissor Sisters’ support act performance was canceled.
“Hey, it’s Scissor Sisters here and we’re very sorry that we’re not going to be play tonight because of the lighting once again in Dallas. So we apologize and we’re really, really bummed about it. And we send our love and until next time,” Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears said in a video message posted to the band’s Instagram story Wednesday evening.
Comments from fans on the Dos Equis Pavilion’s Instagram page complained that attendees at Tuesday’s show had to wait for hours at the venue before the concert was pushed back. An instagram user named Sayheygray posted: “You trapped us for 3 hours with no updates, then caused chaos by suddenly canceling the Kesha show and forcing everyone out in a downpour. People were panicked, soaked, and scared—while cops and underpaid staff pushed us out. After a deadly storm just hours away, this was heartless and dangerous. Do better.”
Kesha posted a message on her Instagram story and X page July 8 that referenced the deadly floods Texas has recently endured, saying: “I wanted to say thank you for coming out to support an independent artist. I have been so excited for tonight and to celebrate my freedom and go tits out with all of you, but due to the weather and what yall here in Texas have been facing, I have to put your safety first. My heart is with you Texas. I’m so sorry that I can’t play this show tonight because of the weather and for all of your safety.”
A review from the Dallas Observer noted that Wednesday’s rescheduled show “kicked off with an exceptional set from Slayyyter … And then, about five minutes before Slayyyter’s set was supposed to end, a deep roll of thunder echoed through the pavilion. Just as we had on Tuesday, we all huddled in our cars and under tents, staring at weather apps and begging whoever in the audience had angered the weather Gods to start atoning and fast.”
After parts of the set were removed from the stage, including drums kit for support act The Scissor Sister, and fans were allowed to return to their seats, Kesha began her set at 9:25 p.m.
The Dallas Observer declared that “it was worth the wait. … Heavy moments aside, the ‘Tits Out Tour’ is a party first and foremost and there’s nobody Kesha would rather luxuriate in her independence with than her fans at this sold-out show. Every pop star alive likes to wax poetic about how much they love their fans, but Kesha seems to mean it on another level.”
The review went on to reference how Kesha played a stripped-back version of the tune “Happy” and explained how her fans “helped her through the darkest times in her life.”
“I wrote [this song] as a promise that someday I would be happy,” Kesha said, according to the Dallas Observer. “I’m really excited to tell you that I’ve never been happier in my entire life. Y’all make me so fucking happy.”
Kesha’s “Tits Out Tour” continues with a July 10 show in The Woodlands, Texas, at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.
Pollstar has reached out to promoter Live Nation to see if refunds are being offered to fans who couldn’t make the rescheduled Dallas date.
Kesha’s tour dates are booked by CAA and she is managed by Crush Music Media Management Inc.
NBC News reported July 9 that the death toll caused by flooding in the Texas Hill Country had risen to 120 “as search efforts continue. Rescuers are desperately searching for at least 173 people who are missing.”
