German Festivals: Lollapalooza Berlin, Jazzopen Stuttgart, Parookaville Weeze

JT Shines At 10th Lollapalooza Berlin
60,000 guests per day showed up for the 10th anniversary celebrations of Lollapalooza Germany at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, July 12-13.
The rain on the first day didn’t dampen the spirit of festivalgoers, who got to enjoy a truly eclectic lineup that featured The Last Dinner Party, FLO, Issey Cross, K-pop girl band IVE, co-headliner Gracie Abrams, and main headliner Justin Timerlake, whose performance was hailed by all of the local press.
Trance icon Armin van Buuren closed day one out on the Perry’s Stage, named after Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell, turning the Olympiastadion “into Germany’s largest open-air disco,” according to a press release from the festival.
As usual, Lollapalooza Berlin offered a huge program beyond the music, including Fashionpalooza, where “streetwear met queer couture,” and “creative workshops merged with runways and spontaneous flash mobs”; the Grüner Kiez area highlighting sustainability and activism; Kidzapalooza, where the next generation enjoyed mini concerts, and crafting corners; plus street art, poetry, comedy performances, pop-up concerts, and DJ sets all over the site in and around the stadium. There was also a fully-fledged 10-year anniversary parade.
Day two featured performances by j-hope, RAYE, Benson Boone, Berlin techno duo Brutalismus 3000, Sofi Tukker, John Summit, Mother Mother, and many more. When BTS member j-hope and RAYE closed out the Telekom Main Stage and the Main Stage South, respectively, there was even some sun shining through the clouds.
The history of Lollapalooza Germany has been a colorful one, it took a while for the event to find its home in the German capital. It premiered at the former airfield Berlin Tempelhof in 2015, but had to move to Berlin’s Treptower Park the year after. After a one-off at the horserace track Hoppegarten, just outside Berlin, the festival found its current home at the Olympiastadion.

Attendance Record At Jazzopen Stuttgart
The 31st edition of jazzopen in Stuttgart came to a close Sunday, July 13, with a sold-out show by Lionel Richie on the main stage at Schlossplatz.
Across twelve days, some 64,000 visitors celebrated in the heart of Stuttgart, “setting a new attendance record with a stage occupancy rate of 98 percent,” according to a press release from promoters.
An additional 10,000 music fans attended the many free Open Stages concerts. Including the club shows, the jazzopen Stuttgart 2025 presented more than 70 concerts across eleven stages, offering a wide range of musical styles.
Highlights included performances by London-based band Ezra Collective, Herbie Hancock, and Gregory Porter in the Altes Schloss; standout acts such as rising British star RAYE, blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa, electronic music legend Jean-Michel Jarre, and Lionel Richie on the main stage at Schlossplatz.
Preparations for next year are already in full swing, with two festivals taking place for the first time: jazzopen in Stuttgart, July 1-12, followed directly by its counterpart in Modena, Italy, July 13-18. Headliners for both festivals are expected to be announced in early November.
Promoter Jürgen Schlensog commented, “We’re very excited about the premiere of our festival double in the coming year and aim to surpass the 100,000 visitor mark with the jazzopen brand.”
