Los Angeles punk rock icons L7 are celebrating a major milestone in their hometown this October. The band will be throwing a 40th anniversary bash and performing at The Belasco Theater in Downtown Los Angeles on Oct. 3. Lunachicks and CSS are also on the bill, and additional performers will be announced soon.

“This will mark the second year of our annual takeover of The Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, which coincides with L7’s 40th anniversary, so we are making it a big party!” says legendary frontwoman Donita Sparks, who co-founded the band alongside guitarist Suzi Gardner and is curating the event.

L7 threw their first major event at the L.A. venue last year with their Fast And Frightening Takeover, and this year’s event coincides with the anniversary of the band’s formation, which happened in 1985 before releasing its eponymous debut three years later.

“Suzi and I started the band way back in 1985, withstanding many trials and tribulations, band members, and misogynist rock dinosaurs,” Sparks added. “Gratefully, we survived, even thrived at times, and we want to celebrate with some of our very special friends who joined us along the way.”

The anniversary bash will be similar to last year’s takeover, which featured five bars, two stages and was open to fans of all ages. Sparks said her sisters in arms, Lunachicks and CSS, complement the “rowdiness” of their shows, with the latter getting “the electro-fun party going.” L7 hasn’t shared the stage with Lunachicks since 1990 at CBGBs in New York City, and Sparks promises it will “truly be a momentous event of insanity and rock and roll.”

“I think all three of our bands share a certain sense of humor, political right-on-ness and bombastic energy, so look out, mellow ones… You will be rocking! Come on out and join our celebration,” Sparks added.

Presale tickets are available today at 10 a.m. PST, followed by the general onsale beginning July 18 at 10 a.m. PST via the band’s website, L7theband.com/tour.

L7 is booked by Independent Artist Group. In addition to the band’s takeover of The Belasco last year, the quartet performed at Good Things and Sonic Temple festivals, supported Foo Fighters and played shows in Europe in 2024.
