Billie Eilish will soon be making her way into movie theaters across the globe, and is collaborating with one of the most notable filmmakers in the world to make it happen. During a show at Co-op Live in Manchester, England, the nine-time Grammy Award winner told her fans that she’s working with none other than James Cameron, director of Titanic and the “Avatar” films, on a special project that will be in 3D.

“I have something kind of exciting to say,” she began telling fans during the beginning of her four-night stand at the arena last weekend. “So, you may have noticed there’s like more cameras than usual up here. And basically, I can’t say much about it, but what I can say is I’m working on something very, very special with somebody named James Cameron, and it’s going to be in 3D. So, take that as you will, and these four shows here in Manchester, you and me are part of a thing that I am making.”

Eilish went on to say that Cameron was in the audience and that she’d be wearing the same outfit for four consecutive shows because of the project.

Cameron pushed the boundaries of 3D filmmaking with his 2009 hit “Avatar,” which ultimately became the highest-grossing film of all time, with a $2.92 billion haul, according to Box Office Mojo. He accomplished massive success again with the format 13 years later with “Avatar: The Way of Water,” which grossed $2.32 billion and finished at No. 3 on the Top Lifetime Grosses chart behind “Avengers: Endgame.”

Eilish will look to push the boundaries of concert films with an immersive 3D experience with Cameron, but it isn’t the first time she’s worked with a visionary director. The 23-year-old singer collaborated with Robert Rodriguez, a genre director known for films such as “Desperado” and “Sin City,” and animator Patrick Osborne on “Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles,” a concert movie that blended 2D animation with live action and was inspired by films like “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.”

The concert film has gone through a renaissance in the past few years with the music industry’s biggest names expanding their brand into cinemas, with the most successful one coming from Taylor Swift. Her “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” movie was a box office success with a $261 million global haul, making it the top-grossing concert movie of all time. The Beyhive also flocked to theaters in 2023 and helped “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé” garner nearly $44 million at the box office.

Eilish is currently on the United Kingdom leg of her “Hit Me Hard And Soft Tour.” Her first two performances at Co-op Live have a combined haul of $6,273,100 off 38,446 tickets sold, according to Pollstar Boxoffice.

The young singer, who won two Academy Awards for Best Original Song, is booked by WME’s Lucy Dickins and Kirk Somner and managed by Sandbox Entertainment’s Jason Owen.
