One of the best things about live music – and festivals in particular – is that just about anything could happen, including those surprise guest appearances that make everyone at home wish they’d bought a ticket. Highlights from this weekend’s edition of Lollapalooza in Chicago included Olivia Rodrigo bringing out Weezer, Robyn taking the stage during Gracie Abrams’ set and Earth, Wind & Fire joining Sabrina Carpenter.

The mega festival at Grant Park kicked off Thursday, July 31, on a high note with notable artists like Gracie Abrams, Luke Combs and Tyler, The Creator taking the stage and giving fans outside of the festival grounds major FOMO.

Combs, a successful stadium act in the touring business, made history by becoming the first country singer to headline the festival. He brought out Alex Warren to perform the latter’s chart-topping hit “Ordinary,” and Combs later donned a Cubs jersey and closed with the crowd-pleasing cover of “Fast Car.”

Tyler, The Creator returned to Lollapalooza for the first time since 2021, just over a week after dropping his latest album, DON’T TAP THE GLASS.

Another memorable moment from Day One on the T-Mobile stage was Swedish star Robyn joining Abrams for a rendition of the 2010 hit song, “Dancing on My Own.”

“She’s extraordinary and she’s someone who does not need to say yes to do something like that but it’s just so generous and she’s a superhuman person with magic shooting out of her pores. I don’t even know how she is real,” Abrams said of Robyn in a recent interview with Pollstar.

Day Two upped the ante with Olivia Rodrigo’s debut at Lollapalooza. Her set went viral with guests Weezer joining her on stage to perform ’90s rock hits “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain’t So.”

Speaking of the ’90s, Korn triumphantly returned to the festival for the first time in 28 years and delivered nu-metal nostalgia to its headlining set on the Bud Light stage, playing hits like “Freak on a Leash” and “Here to Stay.”

The surprises, historic performances and collaborations continued on Saturday. TWICE became the first K-pop girl group to headline the festival and slayed with a set that included their live debut of “Takedown,” a track featured on the hit Netflix animated film “Kpop Demon Hunters.”

Doechii’s school-inspired set with dancing classmates also stole headlines, and the hip-hop star took advantage of the platform to announce her upcoming headlining tour.

It wouldn’t be a true Chicago festival without its own Chance the Rapper making an appearance. In addition to joining DJ trio Levity, the hip-hop star performed a surprise but brief set at Perry’s stage, performing hits and building anticipation for his upcoming album Star Line, which is his first in six years.

Lollapalooza 2025 wrapped in grand fashion on Sunday with pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter, who brought out Earth, Wind & Fire for rousing performances of “September” and “Let’s Groove.”

Simultaneously, A$AP Rocky was on the Bud Light stage and performed his hits as well as some songs for the first time.

Finneas, Billie Eilish’s brother, made his solo debut at the festival and got a little help from Ashe, and together they performed “The Little Mess You Made and “Till Forever Falls Apart.”
