Lady Gaga Cancels Wednesday’s Miami Show, Citing Risk Of Damage To Vocal Cords

Shortly before showtime on Wednesday, Lady Gaga broke the news via Instagram that her third of three nights at Miami’s Kaseya Center has been called off because her voice was “extremely strained and both my Dr. and vocal coach have advised me not to go on because of the risk it poses.”
The Miami New Times reported that fans started leaving the venue just a few minutes shy of 8 p.m. after the news got out.
The Kaseya Center also issued a statement via Instagram saying, “Unfortunately, tonight’s performance of the Mayhem Ball has been postponed. During her warmup tonight, Lady Gaga experienced significant vocal strain and has been advised by her ENT not to perform. Information on the rescheduled date and the process for refund will be issued soon.”
Comments on the venue’s IG post criticized the postponement as being “horribly managed” with one commenter saying “It’s one thing that lady Gaga had vocal strain. As fans we get that. It’s the fact that people were waiting outside for two hours in 88% humidity.” Multiple comments accused the staff of being disrespectful and laughing at fans.
Lady Gaga’s next scheduled stop on “The Mayhem Ball” is Sept. 6-7 at Madison Square Garden. Following shows at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena and Chicago’s United Center, she’s scheduled to head to Europe. Gigs in Europe are booked through late November, with a handful of Australia gigs in December. And then in January, Gaga has six nights booked in Japan.
Check out Gaga’s full statement she issued via her Instagram stories below:
“Hi everyone I am really so so sorry but I need to postpone tonight’s show in Miami. During rehearsal last night and my vocal warmup tonight my voice was extremely strained and both my Dr. and vocal coach have advised me not to go on because of the risk it poses. I want to be hardcore and just push through this for you but I don’t want to risk long-term or permanent damage to my vocal cords. There is a significant risk based on all our combined experience with a show like ours and as you know I sing live every night – and even though this was a hard and agonising decision I would be more afraid of the long term implications on my voice. I hope you can forgive me and accept my sincerest apologies for any disappointment, let down, inconvenience. I am so so sorry I tried so hard to avoid this. I take serious care of myself to be able to put on this highly demanding show. I love my fans so much. Respect you and hope you can accept my sincere regretful apology. We are trying to reschedule the show as quickly as possible.”
Lady Gaga is represented by Creative Artists Agency. Her manager is Bobby Campbell
Recent reports submitted to Pollstar Boxoffice for Gaga include four nights at Madison Square Garden Aug. 22-27 that sold a total of 54,390 tickets and grossed nearly $17.5 million.
