Joyce Leveston

Joyce Leveston has a global eye with a granular touch.

Since taking over as CEO of the New York Convention Center Operating Corporation, which operates the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, in March (the first woman to ever hold that position) she has launched initiatives that engage both workers and worldwide partners.

With three decades of experience, including serving as SVP of Convention Centers for Oak View Group (Pollstar’s parent company), Leveston’s priority has been people.

“The most impactful successes at the Javits Center have been driven by one powerful force – our people,” she says. “Since stepping into the role of Chief Executive Officer in March, my top priority has been our team. That will never change. I firmly believe that the foundation of any long-term success lies in the culture we build and the talent we nurture.”

Her high-touch approach extends to external partners and clients around the world as she navigates a shifting geopolitical landscape and the impact of tariffs on the industry, while repositioning the global brand as one that is future-focused.

“The outside factors that affect our business can make building a sales strategy a complex task, but I believe my team and New York are up to the challenge,” explains Leveston. “Rather than waiting for stability, we took a proactive approach.”

Leveston serves on the Board of UFI (the global association of the exhibition industry) and attended IMEX Frankfurt where she talked about the Center’s ambitious sustainability initiatives that include a 6.75-acre rooftop, zero-waste Steel Farm, named for former Javits CEO Alan Steel.

“Building that personal connection has been key to keeping us top of mind on the world stage,” offers Leveston. “And of course, our greatest advantage is our location. New York isn’t just a destination – it’s a symbol of possibility. The phrase ‘If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere’ describes New York for a reason – we are the peak of success for any industry. Leaning into the energy, diversity, and ambition of this city has positioned us to attract premier international events.”
