Foo Fighters continue to surprise fans with performances in intimate venues. Just over a week after playing a surprise show in San Luis Obispo, California, and introducing fans to drummer Ilan Rubin, the rock band told New Haven fans that they were next.

The show at Toad’s Play, a 1,000-capacity music club in Connecticut, was announced Monday morning, and the band played later that night. Hundreds of fans lined up at the venue box office to purchase tickets, which $30 and were only available in person. Tickets reportedly sold out in just a few hours, and many were turned away.

Foo Fighters announced the surprise concert on their social media pages, and it was their fourth show with Rubin, who has performed with Nine Inch Nails, Paramore, Danny Elfman and more. The band began its run of underplays Sept. 13 at the Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo and followed that with another concert at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California. Foo Fighters then surprised Washington, D.C., fans with a performance at Black Cat.

Foo Fighters are booked by WME’s Don Muller in North America and Russel Warby in Europe and the United Kingdom, and by CAA’s Marlene Tsuchii in Australia, Asia, Mexico, New Zealand and South America. They’re managed by SAM’s John Silva and Michael Meisel. With 395 headline reports submitted to Pollstar’s Boxoffice dating back since 1999, the band has sold 6.9 million tickets, grossing $530.4 million.

Their last headline date submitted to Pollstar’s Boxoffice took place on Aug. 13, 2024, at Toyota Pavilion at Concord in Concord, California, with 12,305 tickets sold, grossing $1.7 million. Just days before that, the band sold out two nights at Los Angeles’ BMO Stadium on Aug. 9 and 11, with a total of 42,614 tickets, grossing $6.5 million.
