Corey Lewandowski, President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, isn’t happy with the National Football League’s historic decision to have Bad Bunny headline the Super Bowl’s halftime performance and warned that ICE agents will be present for the biggest night in American sports.

Lewandowski made an appearance on Benny Johnson’s online series, “The Benny Show,” and was asked if U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement would have a presence at the Super Bowl.

He replied, “There is nowhere you can provide safe haven to people who are in this country illegally. Not for the Super Bowl and nowhere else. We will find you and apprehend you and put you in a detention facility and deport you. Know that this is a very real situation under this administration, which is contrary to how it used to be.”

Lewandowski went on to say the NFL’s decision to “pick somebody who seems to hate America” is “shameful.”

Bad Bunny is one of the most-streamed artists in the world and set the template for post-pandemic stadium touring with his massively successful “World’s Hottest Tour” in 2022. He is embarking on another major global tour that runs from November through July, but the routing doesn’t include any U.S. dates.

The Puerto Rican superstar recently spoke about not including U.S. stops for his tour, telling I-D Magazine that he was concerned about mass deportations and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids.

“There were many reasons why I didn’t show up in the U.S., and none of them were out of hate—I’ve performed there many times,” he said. “All of [the shows] have been successful. All of them have been magnificent. I’ve enjoyed connecting with Latinos who have been living in the U.S. … But there was the issue of—like, fucking ICE could be outside [my concert]. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”

Lewandowski serves as an adviser to the Trump administration and is an influential figure in the Department of Homeland Security. He is the first person in Trump’s inner circle to comment on the halftime show, claiming that featuring an artist like Bad Bunny is exclusive and not inclusive.

“There are plenty of great bands and entertainment people who could be playing at that show that would be bringing people together and not separating them,” Lewandowski said.

He concluded with another stern message: “If there are illegal aliens, I don’t care if it’s a concert for Johnny Smith or Bad Bunny or anybody else, we’re going to do enforcement everywhere because we’re going to make Americans safe.”

Bad Bunny is a three-time Grammy winner whose most recent album, DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, reached 7 billion streams on Spotify, making it the most streamed LP released this year. He recently concluded a 31-date residency at El Coliseo de Puerto Rico that had a major impact on the local economy, with every show and travel package sold out.
