After being unable to open for its 2025 season due to a lack of proper permits, Avant Gardner has filed permits with New York City’s Department of Buildings to demolish the Brooklyn Mirage. The venue’s owners are seeking to tear down the 32,000 square-foot temporary structure, with the permit currently pending, according to the Department of Building’s website.

Owners have not yet stated what the property will be intended for.

A planned opening May 1 with two nights of shows by techno artist Sara Landry was cancelled, as the venue was barred from opening due to an inspection delay. Avant Gardner, parent company of the venue site that hosts Brooklyn Mirage, was expected to unveil a brand-new build with a 6,250-cap room featuring a 270-degree LED screen with 30k resolution and 100 million pixels. The main dancefloor was more than twice the size of the previous build, with second and third-level dancefloors built into the mezzanine.

In May, Avant Gardner CEO Josh Wyatt parted ways with the company, with Gary Richards stepping in as interim CEO.

In August, the parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, with the promotion company taking to its social media pages to state, “The decision to file for Chapter 11 relief follows several months of financial distress, culminating with Avant Gardner being unable to open its newly constructed Mirage event space for the 2025 season. Many of the Mirage shows are being moved to the Great Hall [a 3,400-cap venue within the Avant Gardner complex] or otherwise relocated for the remainder of 2025.”

Great Hall and Kings Hall (480-cap) remained open throughout the duration of the promotion company’s troubles.
