Dancefloor, an event discovery and ticketing platform tailored to meet the needs of the electronic music sector and its fans, announced the launch of its Nightlife Dividend Program, a new initiative designed to help the fight for survival of independent venues and promoters across the UK.

Dancefloor’s new model introduces what it has described as “a first-of-its-kind profit-sharing system built on collective success.

“Every month, 25% of Dancefloor’s booking fees are pooled and redistributed back to the venues and promoters selling on the platform to provide a new, automatic revenue stream on top of existing ticket sales.”

“Unlike traditional ticketing models, Dancefloor’s approach rewards community participation rather than exclusivity. Promoters and venues can continue using their existing systems while still benefiting from the monthly payout, simply by listing their events and selling tickets on the platform,” the press release announcing the Nightlife Dividend Program states.

Pollstar reached out to Dancefloor founder and CEO Ben King to find out how this works. He explained, “partners are free to choose how much allocation they sell through Dancefloor. Their share of the dividend pool each month is calculated based on their sales contribution. So for example, a partner selling 1000 tickets would earn a greater share of the pool than a partner selling 100 tickets. However, this weighting tapers off eventually to prevent massive venues from receiving an overwhelming share.

“Partners always receive 100% of their ticket face value, and in markets where the Nightlife Dividend is available, 25% of just the booking fee is contributed to that city’s pool.”

In other words, promoters and venues using Dancefloor receive not just the ticketing revenue from their own events, but also gain a new revenue stream from their slice of Dancefloor’s revenue – every month, and automatically.

The proprietary technology and software powering the Nightlife Dividend Program was built in-house by the Dancefloor team.

The Nightlife Dividend launches first in London, with more cities set to follow, and aims to create a fairer, more sustainable ecosystem for the dance music industry.

King commented, “Our night-time ecosystem is at breaking point, we’ve all seen incredible local venues and promoters struggle or disappear. After working at two music ticketing companies previously I saw firsthand how the old way of doing things is not sustainable, and it’s clear the system has to change. I started Dancefloor because I wanted to do things differently. With The Nightlife Dividend we’re putting money back into the hands of the people who make nightlife possible. It’s about rebuilding the ecosystem from the ground up.”
