AEG Submits Plans To Develop 49-Story, Mixed-Use Building

AEG has submitted an application to the Los Angeles Department of City Planning to construct a 49-story, mixed-use building that would include a hotel, 364 residential units and 112,593 square feet of entertainment uses, with a night club proposed for the eighth floor.
Urbanize reported that the application was submitted Nov. 5 and detailed the company’s plans to redevelop “a surface parking lot just north of the L.A. Live complex” that’s located at 917-931 W. Olympic Boulevard and 920-948 S. Georgia Street.
The site noted that this is AEG’s third attempt to take on a project on the site after previously partnering with Williams & Dame in 2013 on plans to operate a building as a Renaissance Hotel, as well as plans to “build a 38-story expansion of the J.W. Marriott on the property in 2016.” Urbanize adds that AEG “stepped away from the project within two years.”
Along with a 334-room hotel, the residential units and a nightclub, the current plans for an approximately 631-foot-tall tower at the site include a restaurant, a bar, meeting rooms and a ballroom. The possible entertainment uses include miniature golf, darts, escape rooms, and electronic games. Urbanize reports that “a podium-top amenity deck would also be activated with restaurant space, a bar, a pool, a clubroom, and a fitness area.” There are also plans for restaurants at the street level and on the entertainment floors.
In order for the project to move forward, AEG will need to get “approval of conditional use permits for both the hotel use and alcohol sales, as well as an amendment to the Los Angeles Sports and Entertainment District Specific Plan which governs the L.A. Live campus and surrounding blocks,” according to Urbanize.
