A TEAM EFFORT FOR GORILLAZ MILESTONE

Gorillaz celebrated the 25th anniversary of their self-titled debut album this year. And like everything the Damon Albarn-fronted musical project does, they did it in style – with a three-week House of Kong exhibition topped off by four concerts at London’s Copper Box Arena. Each concert was a play-through of a past Gorillaz album, closing with a full performance of the yet-to-be-released The Mountain.
Niamh Byrne, who manages the band alongside Régine Moylett at Eleven Mgmt, says, “The exhibition required a great team effort, with [exhibition designers] Swear, [promoters and operators] Kilimanjaro and [producers] LarMac all working together to bring the virtual into reality in an audio-visual journey, starting with the band’s earliest work and marking a new chapter in the band’s storytelling. Bringing the House of Kong exhibition into existence, and seeing it being enjoyed by 30,000 fans over a three-week period, alongside the four special live shows that took place at Copper Box Arena, has been both our most impactful and challenging project in recent years.”
The House of Kong exhibits show the same detail and love in execution Gorillaz has been pouring into all of their work over the years. “Thoughtful curation not only captivates, but also fosters a wide and loyal audience,” says Moylett. “The work we deliver for our artists must reflect – preferably exceed – the detail and energy they devote to their work, while also making a meaningful contribution to culture.”
All Eleven Mgmt clients benefit from this dedication from the founders and their wider team of managers. Aside from Gorillaz, and its creators Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, the artist list includes blur, The Clash, Graham Coxon, Bashy, Bastille, The Waeve, Naomi Scott and Meyy.
The campaign for The Mountain, Gorillaz’ ninth LP, has just begun, “different to anything we have done before in that it encompasses a wider range of cultures,” Byrne says. “It’s a very exciting project and in our opinion, is what the world needs right now – art has the power to change.”
