Public Gathering & Procession Announced To Honor Bobby Weir

unnamed (21)

Fans will get the chance to come together to honor Bob Weir on Saturday with a free public gathering planned in San Francisco.

The iconic guitarist, singer, songwriter and co-founder of the Grateful Dead died Jan. 10 at the age of 78 following a battle with cancer and lung issues. Weir was born in San Francisco and raised in the suburb of Atherton, with the Grateful Dead founded in the San Francisco Bay Area suburb of Palo Alto – so it’s only appropriate that “Homecoming: Celebrating the life of Bobby Weir” will take place at Civic Center Plaza in San Francisco.

An announcement from Sacks & Co, notes that the event will honor “Bobby, whose music, spirit and humanity shaped generations. Together, we will pay tribute in the community and collective heartbeat that he created.”

Though there will be no musical performances, the gathering will include special tributes to honor the beloved artist and a procession traveling three blocks down Market Street between 7th and 9th Streets at approximately 12:30pm PT. The gathering – which is described as “a short sacred stop on his homecoming journey, [centered] on gratitude, remembrance, and togetherness” – will then begin at 12:45 p.m. In other words, Saturday’s event is seen as “a hat tip on his way out.”

Attendees, who are invited to RSVP via eventbrite here, are advised to enter Civic Center Plaza via Fulton Plaza.
