Green Day To Play Super Bowl Opening Ceremony Concert At Levi’s Stadium

Bay Area favorites Green Day have been tapped to headline a 60th anniversary Super Bowl opening ceremony at the Big Game’s host venue, Levi’s Stadium, on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 8.
“We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!” lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong said in the announcement. “We are honored to welcome the MVPs who’ve shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let’s have fun! Let’s get loud!”
The performance will celebrate six decades of Super Bowl history, with the band helping usher generations of Super Bowl MVPs onto the field, according to the announcement. The ceremony airs live at 3 p.m. Pacific on NBC, Telemundo, Peacock and Universo.
“Celebrating 60 years of Super Bowl history with Green Day as a hometown band, while honoring the NFL legends who’ve helped define this sport, is an incredibly powerful way to kick off Super Bowl LX,” said Tim Tubito, the league’s senior director of event and game presentation. “As we work alongside NBC Sports for this opening ceremony, we look forward to creating a collective celebration for fans in the stadium and around the world.”
The opening ceremony will take place ahead of the pregame entertainment, in which Charlie Puth is to perform the national anthem, Brandi Carlile will sing “America the Beautiful” and Coco Jones will deliver “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
Levi’s Stadium has been preparing for the festivities for years, unveiling $200 million worth of renovations ahead of this year’s NFL season. The stadium is also one of the host venues for the FIFA World Cup taking place this summer, and will host six matches.
Along with Bad Bunny, who somehow seemingly continues to become an even bigger worldwide superstar, starring as the official Super Bowl halftime performer, other Super Bowl-related concert events include a Bay Area Host Committee Live! series — promoted by Another Planet Entertainment — at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, headlined by Benson Boone (Feb. 5), Martin Garrix (Feb. 6) and Chris Stapleton (Feb. 7), Dave Chappelle at Chase Center in San Francisco Feb 7, promoted by Live Nation, and a warehouse bash at Pier 80 at the Midway in San Francisco headlined by Calvin Harris, Diplo and Sonny Fodera Feb. 6, promoted by NPU Live, followed by a Big Game Pre-Party with T-Pain and Sean Paul Feb. 7.
Still other events include On Location’s Super Bowl LX Studio 60 Concert Series at the Palace of Fine Arts, with Sting headlining the opening night of On Location’s Super Bowl LX Studio 60 concert series on Feb. 6. Shaq’s Fun House returns to the Cow Palace in Daly City with DJ sets and performances by artists including T-Pain, Tiesto and others on Feb. 6.
Many venues are scheduling concerts to entertain the influx of visitors, including a concert Feb. 6 at Pier 80 featuring Calvin Harris and Diplo as part of a major EDM event. “Bud Light Presents Post Malone & Buddies” will be held Feb. 6 at Fort Mason in San Francisco. And on Feb. 5, Fall Out Boy headlines a Wells Fargo Autograph Card Exclusive concert for cardholders at The Regency Ballroom.
