Eagles Make History With Greatest Hits Album, Sphere Residency

Eagles are flying high this week with news on Thursday that the rockers have become the first band to earn Quadruple Diamond certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales of more than 40 million units of Their Greatest Hits 1971–1975. And the band returns to Sphere on Friday for a 12-show run that will set the record come March for the longest-running residency at the iconic Las Vegas venue.
An announcement points out that Their Greatest Hits 1971–1975 remains the best-selling album of all time in the U.S. And in other news, the band’s beloved 1976 album, Hotel California, has been re-certified 28x Platinum by the RIAA – ranked as the third best-selling album of all time.
When Their Greatest Hits 1971–1975 was released the LP spent five weeks at No. 1 and it became the first album ever to be certified Platinum by the RIAA. The album includes tunes from the band’s first four studio albums – Eagles (1972), Desperado (1973), On the Border (1974), and One of These Nights (1975) – including “Witchy Woman,” “Already Gone,” “The Best Of My Love,” Lyin’ Eyes,” “Take It Easy” and “Desperado,” highlighting Eagles’ harmonies and expressive songwriting.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the album, Eagles will release a crystal-clear 180-gram vinyl edition of the album exclusively at Eagles.com on Feb. 17. Pre-orders are available now.
The Eagles’ next run of Sphere residency dates is scheduled Jan. 23-24, 30-31 and Feb. 20-21, 27-28 and March 20-21, 27-28. Tickets are on sale now.
Earlier this month it was announced that Eagles were nominated for Residency of the Year at the Pollstar Awards.
Eagles is managed by Full Stop Management and the band’s booking agent is Creative Artists Agency’s Rick Roskin.
The band ranked No. 7 on Pollstar‘s Top Touring Artists North America chart with nearly $151.6 million grossed.
