A shooting early Sunday at a crowded Cincinnati nightclub and concert venue wounded nine people, police said. There were no immediate arrests, according to the Associated Press.

The shooting victims were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, Adam Hennie, the city’s interim police chief, said at a news conference.

About 500 to 600 people were in the Riverfront Live nightclub when shots rang out at 1 a.m., Hennie said. He declined to provide additional details, citing the integrity of the investigation.

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said it was helping in the investigation. The venue was hosting an annual birthday celebration for DJ Fresh, who says he has hosted a similar event for 14 years without issue.

“We are devastated by the horrific events that took place during the DJ Fresh Birthday Celebration,” read a message shared on social media on behalf of DJ Fresh’s management. “Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and everyone impacted by this senseless act of violence. This event was intended to be an opportunity for us to come together and enjoy great music; and have fun celebrating life, it is deeply frustrating that the actions of one individual ruined the evening for so many.”

“We are devastated by the violence that occurred in the early hours of March 1st at Riverfront Live,” read a statement from Riverfront Live. “Our hearts are with the victims and their families. We are profoundly grateful that, at this time, all of the victims are reportedly in a safe and stable condition.
We want to take this moment to thank the staff, the first responders, and the community that supported us last night as they have the last eight years. The immediate reaction from CPD helped to prevent further causalities, To those brave men and women- THANK YOU. To the community that that we are proud to be a part of, Thank You.”

Riverfront Live is about 5 miles east of downtown Cincinnati, an active concert venue with a main indoor venue of 1,200 and outdoor space that can accommodate up to 3,500 people. Recent shows at the venue include Aaron Watson, Flosstradamus, Afroman, Papadosio and many others.
