This Week’s Top Tours: Ed Sheeran Wraps Opening Leg Of ‘Loop Tour,’ Debuts At No. 1 On LIVE75

Ed Sheeran debuts at No. 1 on LIVE75 in his first appearance on the chart since completing the opening leg of his “Loop Tour” that launched Jan. 16 in Auckland, New Zealand, and ended with a March 5 performance in Adelaide, Australia. Box-office totals reported during the past week show that the Oceania leg of the tour grossed $98.7 million, while ticket sales reached 754,050 during its seven-week span. The tour included 17 shows in eight stadiums, the first three in New Zealand and the remaining five in Australia.
Ticket sales at the 12 concerts in Australian venues, all included in this week’s chart eligibility period, totaled 619,723 for an average of 51,643 sold tickets per show. The total is the only one on LIVE75 based on stadium box-office activity, so Sheeran has a solid hold on the top ranking. He is also the “Heavy Hitter” this week with his stadium-sized gross average of $7.1 million per show, the highest of any touring artist ranked on the chart.
Promoted by Frontier Touring and MG Live, the eight-city trek included three-show engagements at Sydney’s Accor Stadium, Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium and Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, with fans in Sydney buying the most tickets among the three. Attendance there totaled 192,181 from sold-out shows Feb. 13-15 with a gross of $26.1 million. Then, the Melbourne venue sold 173,387 tickets, Feb. 26-28, while Brisbane fans numbered 116,273 at concerts Feb. 20-22.
Three stadiums on the “Loop Tour” hosted two performances, including Optus Stadium in the Perth suburb of Burswood with 87,812 fans in attendance, Jan. 31-Feb. 1. Sheeran also played two nights at two New Zealand venues: GO Media Stadium in Auckland with 55,959 tickets sold and Apollo Projects Stadium in Christchurch with 44,378 tickets. Then, Sky Stadium in Wellington, New Zealand, and the Adelaide Oval each had one concert with ticket sales totaling 33,990 and 50,070, respectively.
Next up for the tour will be a Latin American leg during May, beginning with a stadium performance in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on the ninth. Six more venues are on tap through the end of that month, including the only arena date on the schedule at Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan on May 13.
The Artist Power Index features a return to No. 1 by Lady Gaga, who is now entering the final month of “The Mayhem Ball,” currently playing arenas in the U.S. and Canada through April 13. So far, she has performed for 151,185 fans at 12 performances in five U.S. venues since kicking off her world tour’s final leg on Feb. 14 in Glendale, Arizona. Overall, the tour’s worldwide gross is currently $316.8 million from 1.47 million tickets sold on four continents. She launched the tour with an opening North American leg last July.
The Global Concert Pulse features Bad Bunny at No. 1 with the highest gross average from concerts during the past three months. He averaged $8.6 million per show at 23 performances on his “Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour” through Latin America.
