Jay-Z Headlining This Year’s Roots Picnic In Philadelphia

Jay-Z is returning to a U.S. stage this year. The iconic rapper will join the Roots to headline this year’s Roots Picnic in May at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.
The hip-hop star, who recently reverted his name to JAŸ-Z in honor of the 30th anniversary of his standout album Reasonable Doubt, last performed live in Paris last June when he joined his wife Beyoncé during her “Cowboy Carter Tour” to perform a few songs.
JAŸ-Z hasn’t headlined a festival since 2017’s Tidal X and Austin City Limits. He made a brief appearance as a special guest at Pharrell’s Something in the Water in 2019.
The two-day event takes place May 30 and 31 at the Belmont Plateau in Philly’s Fairmount Park, marking the first time the festival is being held at the historic site. Additional artists will be announced soon.
Presale tickets are now available, and the general onsale begins March 18 at 10 a.m. ET. Visit rootspicnic.frontgatetickets.com for tickets.
“Moving the Roots Picnic to Belmont Plateau and bringing JAŸ-Z and The Roots together to perform are both bucket-list moments for us,” Manager of The Roots and President of Live Nation Urban Shawn Gee said in a statement. “After meeting with Mayor Cherelle Parker and hearing her vision for Philadelphia 250, she truly inspired us to dream even bigger, and we’re grateful to her, Commissioner Susan Slawson, Jazelle Jones and everyone who helped make it happen. We can’t wait to see everyone in May at the Plat.”
Live Nation Urban and The Roots have developed one of the most anticipated festivals every summer since its inception in 2007. The Roots Picnic has celebrated hip-hop culture and all music for nearly two decades with a diverse group of artists such as Lil Wayne, Phantogram, Pharrell, The Weeknd, Snoop Dogg, Usher, A$AP Rocky, Nas, Vampire Weekend, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Gary Clark Jr., The War on Drugs, Diplo and many more.
