Ozomatli, Gretchen Parlato, Jon B & More At LACHSApalooza

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA), the LACHSA Foundation is presenting the LACHSApalooza benefit arts and music festival featuring notable alumni and trailblazing L.A. artists, including three-time Grammy Award-winning band Ozomatli.
Promising a night filled with music, dance, artistry and fundraising, the event takes place May 30 at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre, with a lineup that also includes jazz singer and performer Gretchen Parlato, pianist and composer Gerald Clayton, producer, singer, and artist Jon B and Afro Unicorn founder April Showers, with more to be announced.
Organizers have set a goal of raising $2.5 million to benefit the foundation’s mission “in advancing the exemplary arts education programs at LACHSA that impact 550 student artists each year.” The announcement goes on to say, “For too long, LACHSA has felt the effects of California’s chronic underfunding of public education. The LACHSA Foundation exists to change that by engaging a broader community of philanthropists, businesses, and advocates who believe in the power of arts education. The Foundation’s mission is simple but urgent: to secure the next 40 years of opportunity for the next generation of creative leaders.”
LACHSA offers public high school students a conservatory-level arts training across five disciplines – Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, Cinematic Arts, and Dance – alongside a college-prep academic education.
The school’s alumni who have gone on to have a huge impact on the arts include Phoebe Bridgers, HAIM, Josefina López, Josh Groban, Anthony Anderson, Ailey’s Associate Artistic Director Matthew Rushing, “Happy’s Place” actress Belissa Escobedo, SNL’s Taran Killam, award winning opera singer Angel Joy Blue, and visual artists Robert Vargas, Tomashi Jackson and Kehinde Wiley, among others.
Tickets for LACHSApalooza go on sale Friday, March 20 at 10 a.m. PT via Ticketmaster.
