Nick Hakim Announces Album, Single And Headline Tour In North America, UK And Europe

Nick Hakim announced his fourth studio album, I Can See, set for release on July 24. The announcement arrives alongside the release of the album’s title track and news of his headline North American, UK/Europe tour this fall.
Starting Sept. 17 in his hometown of Washington D.C., Hakim will perform songs from his forthcoming album as well as his catalog at shows across North America including New York, Toronto, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco and two performances in Los Angeles. The European and UK leg will see visit Dublin, Glasgow, London, Birmingham, Paris, Berlin, and more. Tickets go on sale June 12 at 10:00 AM local time.
I Can See and the title track contribute a new chapter to the singer/songwriter’s catalog of work.
“I can’t imagine beginning this album without this track,” Hakim said of the single in the announcement. “It’s the entry point of this collection of songs. This took four years to finish. It felt like an experiment of how time moves, and we change, but how you can retain a feeling from the sound or tone of music you’ve made or love. The initial demo of this song took 20 minutes to make, but the patience and time it took to ‘finish’ was worth every moment.”
The single is paired with a new music video directed by Terrence Nance (Random Acts of Flyness), shot at Baltimore’s Lalibela community art space. The video shows Hakim largely blindfolded as he wanders through the 60,000 sq ft space, relying solely on his hearing for direction.
Speaking about working with Hakim on the music video, Nance added, “It was important for me that the videos come from the same imaginative garden in Nick’s spirit that birthed the music. He courageously imagined all that we endeavored to express behind the blindfold. Grateful to be a part of it.”
Initially conceived from bedroom demos and later taking full form at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas, and in various studios in NYC, the songs on I Can See were made alongside a cast of longtime collaborators including Andrew Sarlo (Dijon, Bon Iver) and mastered by Heba Kadry (Björk, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Gorillaz).
