The Rolling Stones Release New Single; Could Residency Dates Be Next?

unnamed (28)

With the countdown on for The Rolling Stones’ new album, the band today released the single “Jealous Lover,” along with a music video directed by starring Anya Taylor-Joy & Charles Melton. Of course fans are wondering if a new album could mean new tour dates – and Keith Richards recently shared that the band is open to doing a residency.

“I don’t know if tours are possible,” Keith Richards told UNCUT during a cover story interview that was published online June 19. “It’s the travelling that takes it out of you. But I do see the possibility of us doing residency somewhere. Wherever it is, London, New York, Paris, anywhere. I’ll play Rome! But I don’t see why they shouldn’t be able to throw some shows together in a new format.”

Perhaps the iconic rock band could take over London’s O2, which is hosting five nights from Ariana Grande’s “The Eternal Sunshine” tour in August. And then there’s always New York’s Madison Square Garden, which made history with its Billy Joel residency. And of course, there’s the Sphere in Las Vegas, which has upcoming shows by Backstreet Boys, Carín León, Eagles, ILLENIUM, Kenny Chesney and Metallica.

The Rolling Stones’ last tour took place in 2024, “The Hackney Diamonds Tour,” in support of the band’s 2023 studio album. The trek ranked No. 6 on Pollstar‘s 2024 Top 10 Worldwide Tours with a gross of $235,077,193.

The band averaged nearly $13.1 grossed per show, with an average of 47,100 tickets sold.

The Stones’ new studio album, Foreign Tongues, is due out July 10th via Capitol Records.

The video for “Jealous Lover” – available to watch exclusively on Amazon Music – was directed by Chris Barrett and Luke Taylor, who have worked with artists such as Radiohead and Jack White.

An announcement notes that the new single “offers another compelling example of the band’s remarkable ability to move effortlessly between musical styles. Following the upbeat pop-rock energy of previous single ‘In The Stars,’ the new track embraces a soulful R&B groove, anchored by a captivating falsetto lead vocal from Mick Jagger. … The track is powered by expressive guitar work from Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, whose subtle interplay drives the song’s melodic character. The rhythm section of Darryl Jones on bass and Steve Jordan on drums and percussion provides a deep and assured groove, while longtime friend and collaborator Steve Winwood adds distinctive Rhodes and organ textures. Additional instrumentation from producer Andrew Watt and keyboardist Matt Clifford further enhances the song’s warm, soulful sound.”

Along with “Jealous Lover,” the band released the audio for the song “Divine Intervention,” one of two tracks from the album to feature The Cure frontman Robert Smith.
