Oak View Group and TD Coliseum have announced that a new basketball court has been designed in honor of Hamilton, ON’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the NBA Champion and two-time MVP. The court will make its debut during FIBA’s 2027 Men’s Basketball World Cup America’s Qualifiers, which will be hosted at the TD Coliseum in Hamilton. SGA will represent Canada during the event, where they will face off against Puerto Rico on July 3 and then July 6 against Jamaica.

The new court arrives after SGA joined the TD Coliseum as an investor earlier this year and marks the beginning of what the OVG and TD hope will set Hamilton up as a “leading destination for sports and entertainment.” Along with the court, a space known as the Ares Atrium has been erected in honor of the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard’s family and 2-year-old son, Ares. The newly added location will feature a mural dedicated to his son and include nods to SGA using themes of “identity, memory and belonging.”

“Hamilton gave me the space to dream and the foundation to become who I am,” Gilgeous-Alexander says in a statement. “Having something permanent here connected to my family’s legacy means everything, and getting to play for Team Canada on my own court is something I’m really proud of.”

“The Shai Legacy Court and Ares Atrium recognize not only Shai’s incredible achievements, but the impact he continues to have on this community,” said Nick DeLuco, Senior Vice President and General Manager of TD Coliseum. “We’re honored to celebrate his family’s connection to Hamilton in a way that will inspire future generations for years to come. TD Coliseum continues to serve as a catalyst for growth and renewal in downtown Hamilton; it’s fitting that one of the city’s most inspiring success stories will be woven into the fabric of the building’s future.”

Tickets for the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers at TD Coliseum, featuring Team Canada versus Puerto Rico on July 3 and Jamaica on July 6, are available now at TDColiseum.com.
