German Fests: Lollapalooza Berlin & Parookaville Hail Successful Editions, Highfield Preps For Its Last

Lollapalooza Berlin

Lollapalooza Berlin (presented by essence) welcomed international and German superstars, as well as exciting newcomers and some 100,000 visitors across the weekend of July 18-19, at Berlin’s Olympiapark.

Sunday’s line-up demonstrated the festival’s musical diversity with Turkish superstar Edis opening the TK Maxx Stage, Austrian rapper Vicky taking over the essence Stage, and Trancemaster Krause delivering the soundtrack for electronic music fans on Perry’s Stage.

The New Horizon Stage for emerging talent hosted Pia Klein, The Snuts, Sofia Camara and Don West.

Berlin native Zartmann, Brazilian superstar Anitta, Teddy Swims, Lorde, and Lewis Capaldi all performed on the main stage on Sunday. Capaldi, alongside his own songs, surprised the audience by singing snippets of several artists performing at Lollapalooza Berlin, encouraging everyone to sing along.

Meanwhile, Funk Tribu brought the re-designed Perry’s Stage to a close with an energetic trance set.

As usual, a Lollapalooza Festival is about more than then music, and the Berlin edition is no exception. Across both festival days, visitors immersed themselves in workshops, talks and interactive experiences celebrating creativity, individuality and self-expression at Fashionpalooza; the “Grüner Kiez” once again invited guests to explore sustainability through engaging activities, demonstrating how environmental awareness and festival culture can go hand in hand; and thehe festival’s youngest enjoyed Kidzapalooza family area presented by Plan E Kids, which for the first time featured both indoor and outdoor activities.

Early Bird tickets for Lollapalooza Berlin 2027 are on sale now, starting at €159 ($182) for a weekend ticket.

Parookaville

Parookaville 2026 celebrated another sold-out edition, July 17-19, at Weeze Airport, counting a total 225,000 visitors across all festival days, which includes three days of shows and five camping days, i.e. around 45,000 per day.

Guests got treated to a lineup of more than 300 acts led by Hardwell, Armin van Buuren, The Chainsmokers, Charlotte de Witte, SCOOTER, Axwell, Fisher, Argy, R3hab and others, performing across overhauled stages like “The Aquarius” Mainstage, and the new CUPRA 360° centre stage at Desert Valley.

The festival’s second-largest stage at Bill’s Factory provided several more highlights, including Alle Farben, who played a set on Friday with a choir, strings and horns.

Along with the musical highlights, Parookaville’s unique city concept is always one
of the most distinct experiences for its so-called Citizens. Two guests even celebrated their wedding at the Parooka Church, sponsored by Warsteiner.

The festival grounds also host the world’s largest PENNY supermarket, which provided 45,000 daily visitors with everything they needed around the clock, and ING Bank opened a branch on the festival grounds for the first time.

Bernd Dicks, co-founder and managing director of Parookaville, commented, “Parookaville is and will remain a truly unique experience, providing our attendees with five days of escape from the daily routine. We are very happy with how everything went, and the many people who’ve sent me personal feedback in the meantime share that feeling. The atmosphere was fantastic, everyone celebrated together peacefully. Now we’re looking forward to our other festival, San Hejmo, coming up in four weeks.”

Parookaville 2027 is on sale. BUNT., Lost Frequencies, Don Diablo and Steve Aoki have already been confirmed as the first headliners.

Highfield Festival

Meanwhile, Highfield Festival announced that its 2026 edition, scheduled for Aug. 13-16 in Leipzig, will be its last. After almost 30 years, promoter FKP Scorpio saw no other way, given the overall framework festivals operate under in 2026.

In a statement to fans, promoters explained that a festival of the size of Highfield, which attracts between 30,000 and 35,000 guests each year couldn’t be run on passion alone in 2026.

Production costs, artists availability, the diminishing spending power of fans due to their high costs of living, and increased competition not just from other festivals but large-scale one-off shows in stadiums and other open air locations have all made running a festival incredibly challenging, as Pollstar has been reporting constantly over the past years.

Hence why FKP Scorpio stated that it would use 2027 to rethink the festival’s concept and see if there was room to create an alternative offering that could take the place of Highfield.
