Jim James Announces Solo Acoustic Tour, Releases Title Track From New Album 

Jim James has announced a solo acoustic tour in celebration of his upcoming new album, Wowed Out, due out next month. Plus, he’s released a new single, with the title track – and official music video – of the LP out now. 

Following a previously announced appearance at Park City, Utah’s annual Song Summit on Aug. 28, the solo acoustic tour starts with a hometown show at the Kentucky Performing Arts Brown Theatre in Louisville, Kentucky, Nov. 28. James recently took part in a Q&A focused on his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, as part of Pollstar’s Louisville/Lexington Market Focus.

The short run of solo acoustic dates includes gigs in Chicago, New York, Boston, Los Angeles and Boulder, Colorado.

“It’s always so exciting to be able to release new music out into the world, and I thought a fun way to celebrate the new album would be to do a solo acoustic tour, where I could play some of the new songs live, as well as other songs from throughout all of my solo albums, MMJ songs, a few covers, and other fun stuff! I can’t wait to see everyone out at the shows! ☮️🙏💟✨🕊️🌱” James shared on Instagram.

A presale starts Wednesday at 10 a.m. local time, with the general sale on Friday at 10 a.m. local.  

James notes that “a portion of the proceeds from the Wowed Out tour will go to TAC and their work supporting LGBTQ youth across the country and Arthur’s Earth Sanctuary in Louisville, KY.” 

The title track of the album is described by James’ PR team as “a minimalist but strangely enthralling incantation of surrender to the sublime,” with the song’s “existential musing [set] against a gorgeously transportive sonic backdrop, steadily sinking into the subconscious through its shapeshifting texture and ethereal atmosphere.”

As previously reported, Wowed Out is set for release via ATO Records on Friday, August 28, with pre-orders/pre-saves available now. The project, which is James’ fifth solo project overall, features material that James originally composed for two major film-scoring projects in the early 2010s and then transformed “into an audacious, immersive new work of soulful psychedelia.”

“Lately I’ve been really into music like Alice Coltrane’s spiritual recordings, where it’s just her and organ praying together, and there’s no major event. I wanted these songs to feel like a journey that takes you somewhere rewarding, without always trying for some big dramatic payoff like a massive chorus or a huge guitar solo,” James said in a statement.
