The band’s debut album, The Precariat, is scheduled to release on Oct. 23, as Tommy Lefroy gears up for their show in NYC. The Precariat was written over the course of six years as the duo traversed through Nashville, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Michigan, and London. Tommy Lefroy’s Wynter Bethel and Tessa Mouzourakis released a moody new single, “Thief,” in support of the forthcoming LP, along with a music video, directed by Brendon Burton, to boot.
In describing “Thief,” the band explains how the song came to be, noting that Wynter first conceived it while in Nashville.
“The title refers to things lost along the way, how they sometimes feel taken, by time, or by people who’ve left us. The chorus came to Wynter in a parking lot, while driving for Postmates in Nashville. The song always felt special to us, like a thesis of how we felt in our early twenties,” says the band. “We held on to this song for years knowing we wanted it to be on our first album, and the feelings the song expresses, of perpetual strife and inadequacy, felt more relevant than ever in the context of The Precariat.”
