Earth, Wind & Fire Postpones San Francisco Concert Due To ‘Medical Emergency’ Involving Band Member

A medical emergency involving a member of Earth, Wind & Fire forced the band to postpone its show with Lionel Richie in San Francisco on Thursday.

The legendary funk band issued statements “minutes before” the show was scheduled to begin, according to ABC 7. Earth, Wind & Fire posted a statement on Instagram informing fans that they “are unable to perform as scheduled” at Chase Center in San Francisco “due to a medical emergency involving a member of our band.”

“Ticket holders should retain their tickets, which will be honored for the new date, or refunds will be available at the point of purchase. We sincerely apologize for the unexpected change and appreciate everyone’s understanding.”

There haven’t been any official updates on the Earth, Wind & Fire band member who suffered from the medical emergency. Pollstar reached out to the band’s reps and referred to the statement posted on social media.

TMZ reported that San Francisco Fire Department rep Mariano Elias said a fire engine and private ambulance responded to a “cardiac incident” at the venue Thursday night, and that the patient was listed in critical condition.

The next concert for the co-headliners’ “Sing A Song All Night Long” tour is scheduled to take place at Palm Desert’s Acrisure Arena. The venue still has the event listed on its website.

The incident in San Francisco marks the second time one of the tour’s stars suffered from a medical scare. Richie experienced an episode of dizziness at a June 7 show in St. Paul, Minnesota, in June and postponed two concerts to rest. He returned to the stage on June 30.
