Live Nation Acquires Majority Stake In Three Leading Czech Venues

Live Nation has signed an agreement to acquire a majority stake in three of the leading live entertainment venues in Prague, Czechia: O2 arena (20,000-capacity), O2 universum (5,000-capacity) and Forum Karlín (4,000-capacity).

The agreement was reached with PPF Group, an international investment group founded in the Czech Republic in 1991, which owns the buildings through its wholly owned subsidiary Bestsport. The companies entered into a joint venture, in which Live Nation will hold a 51% stake and Bestsport 49%.

“Together, the partners plan to invest significantly in the venues over the long term, enhancing their facilities, improving the experience for fans and artists and helping them evolve for years to come,” the press release from Live Nation states, adding that “the venues will remain open to all artists, promoters and event organisers. The existing management teams will remain in place, providing continuity for employees, partners, artists and audiences.”

According to a note to press from PPF Group, “the partnership is designed to significantly elevate both the scale and quality of live entertainment in the Czech Republic. It will strengthen Czechia’s and Prague’s position as key destinations on the map for live entertainment.”

This deal builds on several years of growth in Central and Eastern Europe, with Live Nation investing in local teams and expanding into new markets, including Romania and Slovakia, to bring more artists and live experiences to fans throughout the region. Major international tours are already seeing unprecedented demand in these markets.

Iron Maiden’s recent shows in Athens, Sofia, Bucharest and Bratislava attracted some of the largest audiences of the band’s 50-year history, while Eric Clapton sold out performances in Prague, Kraków and Budapest. Metallica has also recently broken attendance records in Bucharest and Chorzów.

The transaction remains subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
